Why did my eSIM receive an area code that doesn't match my current location?

Last updated: June 8, 2026

When Gigs assigns you a new phone number, the area code is determined by the address on file in your Gigs account. It is not based on your current location, and it cannot be picked at random.

If your new number has the wrong area code

This usually means the address on file in your account doesn't match where you'd like the area code to be from. To fix it:

  • Update your address in your Gigs account to the location you'd like the area code to match.
  • Contact us so we can reissue a new number with the correct area code. A reissue means creating a new subscription with a new SIM — the existing one cannot have its number changed.

Why area codes can be limited

For some addresses, the area code you'd expect may not be available — inventory varies by region and carrier. We'll always try to match as closely as possible to the address on file.
