My new number is getting spam calls

Last updated: June 8, 2026

New mobile numbers in the US are often recycled from previous users. If your number's previous holder received spam or sales calls, those calls may continue to reach you for a while after you take the number. This is an industry-wide pattern, not specific to Gigs.

What you can do

  • iPhone: turn on Settings → Phone → Silence Unknown Callers. Calls from numbers not in your contacts go straight to voicemail.
  • Android: in the Phone app, open Settings → Spam and Call Screen (Google Phone) or your manufacturer's equivalent.
  • AT&T ActiveArmor: if your line is on AT&T, download the AT&T ActiveArmor app for additional spam blocking.
  • Block specific numbers as they call (long-press the number in your recent calls list).

If spam calls persist

If you continue to receive significant spam call volume after trying the steps above for more than 48 hours, contact us. In some cases we may be able to escalate the issue with the carrier, or reissue your number.
