Changing Providers for your user
Welcome to our guide on changing providers! If you want to switch your SIM to a different carrier, you've come to the right place. This document will walk you through the process, highlight essential considerations, and clarify the differences between changing providers and SIM exchanges. Let's dive in!
What is Changing Providers?
Every SIM card is specific to a single provider and is linked to a particular carrier, such as AT&T, T-Mobile, or others. When you change providers, you ask Gigs to perform a SIM swap to one with a different provider. This new provider SIM will be associated with the carrier via that provider.
For instance, you might want to move a user from a T-Mobile SIM to an AT&T SIM or even a new provider using the same carrier as the original SIM.
Important Things to Note
Before you proceed with changing a provider for a user, please keep the following points in mind:
Since this is essentially a SIM change, it will result in a new phone number.
This is true even if the new provider uses the same carrier.
An equivalent plan for the other provider must be set up in your project to facilitate the provider change.
The equivalent plan must meet the following criteria:
It must be the same price.
It must be for the same duration.
It must be active.
It will automatically be selected.
Difference Between Changing Providers and SIM Exchanges
SIM Exchanges
Activate a new ICCID within the same provider and the same carrier.
The phone number remains the same.
The plan does not change.

Provider Changes
Activate a new ICCID with a different provider. It is most often with a different carrier, but it can also be the same if the new provider also services that carrier.
This will cause the phone number to change.
A corresponding plan with the new carrier must be in place.
For example, a SIM on a 5GB T-Mobile plan can switch to a 5GB AT&T plan but not to a 15GB AT&T plan.
How to Change Providers
Changing the provider of a SIM is a straightforward process that can be done from the dashboard. Follow these steps:
Select "Change Provider" from the Actions button.
Choose the type of SIM from the pop-up menu.
Note: Some subscriptions may be restricted to one SIM type (eSIM or pSIM).
If you are selecting a pSIM, you must provide the ICCID of the new SIM. eSIMs will generate their own ICCID.
User consent will be requested to perform this action (if applicable).
If consent is needed, the new SIM will not be available until the user's consent has been granted.
The target plan must be active (not archived).
