T-Mobile SIM Exchange

Everything you need to know regarding the T-Mobile SIM Exchange, and if your users are affected.

Updated over a week ago

What is a T-Mobile SIM Exchange?

A SIM Exchange refers to swapping out existing inventory of SIMs in favor of a new and improved inventory.

You send us your current inventory and we send you the new SIMs, free of charge. Please contact your account manager to complete the exchange.

At Gigs, we continuously optimize our supply to ensure our customers have the best connectivity. We’ve identified an opportunity to enhance our service with these new SIMs, which will allow us to add features to our telecom plans that aren’t possible with our current SIM inventory. No other networks are impacted.

Please note that going forward, all T-Mobile SIM orders will be fulfilled with new SIMs.

What if there are existing T-Mobile SIMs in circulation?

We know that it can be difficult to predict exactly when existing inventory will be used. If you have SIMs that are pre-installed into devices or otherwise in circulation that cannot be swapped, both types of SIMs can be supported at the same time.

What are the differences between the SIMs?

The new T-Mobile SIMs use dedicated plans. As a result, you will see duplicate T-Mobile plans in your Dashboard. You can differentiate between these using the framework below:

  • Provider: T-Mobile (p5) Existing plans for activating existing SIMs

  • Provider: T-Mobile (p13) New plans for activating new SIMs

Within the Plans tab, you can see the SIM type for each plan under the Provider column:

You can use the Dashboard to confirm the SIM type (existing p5 or new p13) for individual SIMs -- see instructions here.

How will this affect users?

Your existing SIM inventory will continue to work as normal for users. There will not be any interruptions to service, activation or continued use.

When activating their SIM, our system will only show plans compatible with the SIM (ICCID) a user has entered. They will not be aware of any duplication, and there will be no change in their activation flow.

How can you swap between the SIMs?

For anyone looking to swap a user's SIM from a previous inventory SIM to a new inventory SIM, there are a couple of options:

User Gets a New Phone Number:

  1. Do a provider change & send your user a new SIM

    1. NOTE: This will cause their phone number to change

User Keeps Their Phone Number:

  1. Reach out to Gigs Support to ask for a SIM exchange

    1. Please include the subscription link & new ICCID (must be for a SIM that is designated as p13 in your project)

  2. Gigs Support will handle the transfer of the phone number

  3. Gigs Support confirms the transfer is complete

  4. You send your user the new SIM

If you have any questions on these processes, please contact Gigs support at [email protected].
