How can I exchange an end-user’s physical SIM?

Intended to help providers exchange physical SIMs for a subscriber / end-user.

Updated over a week ago

This is only applicable for physical SIMs. An eSIM is only used for a single device and cannot be exchanged (more on that here).

If an eSIM is needing to be replaced, please reference this article here.

When a subscription is activated, it is attached to the SIM card used for the activation. The SIM exchange process will allow you to attach a new SIM card to an existing subscription by exchanging the SIM which this subscription was previously attached to.

In order to complete this process:

  1. The end-user will need to have been sent a replacement SIM.

  2. You will need to have recorded the ICCID of the replacement SIM.

  3. If your Connect setup includes device mapping (the SIM is inserted in the device during manufacturing) you need to ensure you pair the device with the new SIM ICCID.

Please then take the following steps to exchange the SIM.

  1. Log in to the Gigs Dashboard.

  2. In the dashboard:

    1. Look under the User or Subscription tab and search for the relevant user.

    2. From the drop-down menu in the top right, select “Exchange SIM” (see image below).

    3. You can then search for an ICCID that has been uploaded to the Gigs system and immediately exchange it by entering the ICCID in the text box and clicking exchange.
