After porting, my new eSIM has no service

Last updated: June 8, 2026

If your port has completed but your new Gigs eSIM still shows no service (or "SOS" in the signal area), this is almost always an iOS dual-SIM issue. The fix is counter-intuitive but quick.

The fix

  • Open Settings → Cellular on your iPhone.
  • Find your old SIM (it may still appear to show your phone number).
  • Turn off the old SIM.
  • Turn on your new Gigs eSIM.

Your new eSIM should come online within a minute.

Why this is counter-intuitive

iOS shows each SIM by its phone number. After your port completes, your number is on the new Gigs eSIM at the network level — but iOS may still show the old SIM as if it has your number attached. When iOS asks "which existing SIM to turn off", it shows your old SIM with your number, so it feels wrong to disable it.

It's the correct action. Disabling the old SIM is what tells iOS the number now lives on the new eSIM.

This is an iOS dual-SIM behavior. It is not a problem with your port, your eSIM, or your Gigs service. Android does not have this issue.
