Where do I need to be when I activate my new line?

Last updated: June 8, 2026

To activate your new Gigs line for the first time, you need to be physically located in the United States. The eSIM downloads and activates only when your device is on a US network or US Wi-Fi.

Why this matters

Even if your plan includes international roaming, the initial activation must happen in the US. Once activated, you can roam internationally based on what your plan supports.

If you're already abroad

  • Wait until you return to the US to activate.
  • Or, if you have access to another device that is currently in the US, you can activate from that device.
  • Activation attempts made from outside the US will typically fail with no useful error message — this is a US-network requirement, not a fault.

If you have already activated and are travelling, no action is needed — roaming follows your plan rules from that point on.
