My new number is getting spam calls

Last updated: June 12, 2026

New mobile numbers in the US are often recycled from previous users. If your number's previous holder received spam or sales calls, those calls may continue to reach you for a while after you take the number. This is an industry-wide pattern, not specific to Gigs.

Do not respond to calls or texts from unknown numbers or any that look suspicious. Never share personal or financial information by email, text or phone. Legitimate companies will not ask for passwords, full card numbers or one-time codes over the phone or by SMS. If you're unsure, hang up and call the company back through a verified number.

Silence calls from unknown numbers

This sends every call from a number that isn't in your contacts straight to voicemail. Calls from saved contacts and numbers you've recently dialled still ring through.

iPhone:

  1. Open Settings
  2. Tap Apps, then Phone (on iOS 17 or earlier, the Phone settings are directly under Settings)
  3. Scroll to Screen Unknown Callers (older iOS shows this as a Silence Unknown Callers toggle)
  4. Choose Silence (or toggle the switch on, on older iOS)

Samsung Galaxy:

  1. Open the Phone app
  2. Tap the three-dot menu, then Settings
  3. Tap Block numbers
  4. Toggle Block unknown/private numbers on

Report spam to your carrier

Reporting spam to your carrier helps them identify and act on patterns across many customers. You won't see an immediate result, but each report contributes to the carrier's spam detection.

iPhone:

  1. Open the Phone app and tap Recents
  2. Tap the (i) icon next to the spam number
  3. Tap Share Contact
  4. Send the contact via Messages to 7726 (S-P-A-M on the keypad)

Pixel or Google Phone app:

  1. Open the Phone app and tap the Recents / Home tab
  2. Tap the spam call entry (or tap and hold it)
  3. Tap Block / Report spam
  4. Confirm

If spam calls persist

If you continue to receive significant spam call volume after trying the steps above for more than 48 hours, contact us. In some cases we may be able to escalate with the carrier or reissue your number.
