iMessage isn't working after a SIM change
Last updated: June 8, 2026
If iMessage stopped working after a SIM swap, eSIM install, or port to Gigs, the most common cause is that your phone number was de-selected in iMessage settings when the SIM changed.
How to fix it
- Open Settings → Messages on your iPhone.
- Tap Send & Receive.
- Under "You can be reached by iMessage at", make sure your new Gigs phone number is checked.
- If your number isn't listed, sign out of your Apple ID at the bottom of the same screen, wait a minute, then sign back in. Your number should appear.
If iMessage still isn't working
- Confirm your line has data or Wi-Fi — iMessage requires an internet connection.
- Turn iMessage off and back on at Settings → Messages → iMessage.
- Reboot your phone.
