How do I port my number in? — United States
Last updated: April 3, 2026
This article covers number porting in the United States. For the UK process, see How do I port my number in? — United Kingdom.
In the US, porting requires your account number and transfer PIN from your current carrier — not a PAC code.
What you need before starting
- Your current phone number
- Account number — find it on your bill or in your carrier's app
- Transfer PIN (also called Port Out PIN or Account PIN) — you may need to generate this in your current carrier's app or account settings
- Billing ZIP code — must match what your carrier has on file
- Your current SIM must stay active until the port completes
Do not cancel your current plan before the port is confirmed. Cancelling early can make your number unavailable to transfer.
Carrier eligibility
Gigs supports porting from AT&T, T-Mobile, Verizon, and most prepaid carriers and MVNOs (Boost, Cricket, Metro, and others). Some regional carriers or VoIP numbers may not be eligible.
How to request a port-in
- Open the app → your subscription or plan details → select Port in my number
- Enter your current phone number, account number, and transfer PIN
- Most ports complete within a few minutes to a few hours
- Prepaid accounts, regional carriers, or ported-in numbers may take up to 24–48 hours
- You will receive a notification when the port completes
If your port is delayed or rejected
The most common causes are an incorrect account number or PIN, or details that don't match your carrier's records exactly. Double-check what you entered and resubmit.
