Does my line support RCS?
Last updated: June 8, 2026
RCS (Rich Communication Services) is the modern replacement for SMS that supports read receipts, typing indicators, high-quality media, and group chat improvements. Whether RCS works on your Gigs line depends on the devices on both sides of the conversation and on carrier support.
What works today
- Android to Android: RCS works if both devices have RCS enabled and the carrier supports it.
- iPhone to iPhone: Apple uses iMessage between iPhones. RCS between iPhone and Android is supported on iOS 18 and later.
- iPhone to Android: messages may fall back to SMS if RCS isn't available on either side of the conversation.
If your messages aren't using RCS
- Confirm RCS is enabled on your device.
- Make sure you have a data or Wi-Fi connection — RCS requires an internet connection.
- Some messages may fall back to SMS if the recipient's device or carrier doesn't support RCS.
If you believe RCS should be working but isn't, contact us with details about both devices and we'll investigate.
