My caller ID is showing the wrong name or number

Last updated: April 3, 2026

There are a few different causes depending on whether the name or the number itself is wrong.

Name is wrong or not showing — it may just need time

Caller ID name (CNAM) is stored in a carrier database that can take 24–72 hours to update after a new activation or number port. This resolves automatically — no action needed within this window.

Check whether you're calling from the right line

On dual-SIM devices, calls may be going out on a different SIM than you expect.

iPhone: Settings → Cellular → Default Voice Line

Android: Settings → Network & internet → Mobile network → select the correct SIM for calls

Third-party calling apps show different caller ID

WhatsApp, Google Voice, FaceTime, and other VoIP apps use their own caller ID — not your mobile number. This is expected and cannot be changed through your mobile plan settings.

Still wrong after 72 hours?

Raise it through the app. Include what is currently showing, what it should show, and whether this started after a recent plan change or number port.
