How do I port my number in? — United Kingdom
Last updated: June 8, 2026
This article covers number porting in the United Kingdom. For the US process, see How do I port my number in? — United States.
In the UK, porting your number to Gigs requires a PAC code from your current carrier. Most ports complete the same day. Ports submitted on a Friday will not complete over the weekend.
What you need before starting
- Your current phone number
- PAC code — request it from your current carrier by texting PAC to 65075, or via your carrier's app or account
- Your current SIM must stay active until the port completes
Do not cancel your current plan before the port is confirmed. Cancelling early can make your number unavailable to transfer.
How to request a port-in
- Open the app → your subscription or plan details → select Port in my number
- Enter your current phone number and PAC code
- You will receive a notification when the port completes
How long does a UK port take?
UK porting is a two-step process. First, the number transfers from your old carrier. Second, internal routing on the new network is fully configured so that incoming calls reach you reliably.
- Most ports complete within 24 business hours
- UK ports do not complete over the weekend. A port submitted on a Friday afternoon will typically finish on Monday
- Bank holidays count the same way as weekends for porting
What it looks like if your port started on a Friday
Your number may move to Gigs over the weekend, but the routing changes that allow you to receive calls reliably may not finish until Monday. During this window:
- You can install and use your new SIM or eSIM
- Outbound calls, SMS, and data should work
- Some incoming calls may not reach you until the routing completes
Leaving your old SIM active during this window does not help — once the number has moved, your old SIM no longer receives the calls. The fix is the routing on the new network, which completes on the next working day.
