My SIM is asking for a PUK code
Last updated: April 3, 2026
A PUK (Personal Unblocking Key) is a security code your device asks for after the SIM PIN has been entered incorrectly too many times. You cannot skip it — the PUK must be entered to unlock the SIM.
Do not guess. You have a limited number of PUK attempts (typically 10). If all attempts fail, the SIM is permanently blocked and a new one must be issued.
Find your PUK code
PUK codes are carrier-specific. To get yours:
- Open the app and check under Account, SIM details, or Plan settings — some apps display the PUK directly
- Contact support through the app with your subscription reference and request the PUK code
Enter the PUK code
When prompted on your device, enter the PUK code. You will then be asked to set a new SIM PIN.
- Choose a PIN you will remember
- Avoid obvious combinations like 0000 or 1234
If the SIM is permanently blocked
If the maximum PUK attempts were exceeded and the SIM is blocked:
- Contact support through the app to request a new eSIM profile
- Your number and subscription will remain active — only the profile needs to be reissued
This article doesn't cover:
eSIM locked for a different reason → eSIM locked, already in use, or showing duplicate profile
eSIM deleted and needs reinstalling → My eSIM was deleted — can I reinstall it?
