MMS or picture messages aren't working

Last updated: April 3, 2026

MMS is used for picture messages, group texts, and messages with attachments. It requires mobile data to be active — even when you're connected to Wi-Fi.

Step 1 — Make sure mobile data is on

MMS always uses mobile data. On iPhone: Settings → Cellular — confirm data is enabled. On Android: Settings → Network & internet → Mobile network — confirm data is on. You do not need to disconnect from Wi-Fi.

Step 2 — Check your messaging app settings

iPhone: Settings → Messages → confirm MMS Messaging is turned on

Android: Messaging app → Settings → confirm Auto-download MMS or Group messaging is enabled

Step 3 — Restart your device

Step 4 — Check your APN settings (Android only)

Settings → Network & internet → Mobile network → Access Point Names → check that MMS proxy, MMSC, and MMS port fields are populated. If blank, delete the APN and restart — your device should repopulate correct values automatically.

Group messages splitting into individual texts

MMS or Group Messaging is disabled. iPhone: Settings → Messages → turn on MMS Messaging and Group Messaging.
