My new eSIM shows as 'MOBILE' or another name

Last updated: June 8, 2026

After installing your new Gigs eSIM, you may notice that the eSIM is labeled MOBILE, AT&T, or even the name of your previous carrier in your device's cellular settings. This is expected behavior and does not affect your service.

Why this happens

iOS automatically assigns a label to each eSIM on your device. If you ported in from another carrier, iOS may transfer the label from your old SIM to your new eSIM. The label is cosmetic — your phone number, plan, and service are not affected.

Can I rename it?

  • On iPhone, open Settings → Cellular, tap your Gigs line, then tap the label name. You can rename it to anything you like.
  • On Android, the path varies by manufacturer, but it's usually under Settings → Mobile Service or SIM Manager.

Renaming doesn't change anything about how your line works — it just changes what you see in settings.
