Overview of top-ups functionality (i.e. how to add data to an active subscription)

Summary

A top-up is a common add-on that allows a customer to add credit to a mobile subscription so that they can make calls, text or access the internet in additional quantities beyond what is defined in a plan. Top-ups are defined with and specific to a service provider.

How it Works

Your customers can self-serve to upgrade their plan or select from a choice of data top-ups at any time. This improves your operations by:

Setting up a new Top-up

To set up a new top-up that you can offer your customers, please reach out to Gigs Support, [email protected]. Self-serve top-up creation is not available in Dashboard at this time.

Pre-requisites

  • To apply a Top-up, a subscriber must have an active subscription with a base plan.

  • There must be a Top-up in the project with the status Available (see “setting up a new Top-up)

  • If your project uses Connect and Gigs Payment, the top-up must be booked in Connect by the subscriber (i.e. a member cannot book a top-up in dashboard on behalf of a user).

Types

At this time, top-ups are for data only. A top-up will extend data through the end of the subscription period.

Status

  • Pending - Though activation is relatively quick, once a top-up is added to a subscription, there is an amount of time that a top-up is not yet active.

  • Active - The top-up extends limits defined in the plan for the validity period this is called

  • Ended - The top-up’s validity has expired, or it has been canceled from the subscription.

Multiple Top-ups

Gigs does support adding multiple Top-ups to a subscription

Network Activation

In most cases, top-ups will be effective within minutes. When you book a Top-up, the amount of data in a period increases and stays until the period ends, or until an additional Top-up is booked.

Please reach out to customer support if the top up has not completed within several hours.

Price to end users

The customer retail price will be $6/GB and can be selected from 1 and 2 GB options.

Limitations

  • Only supports data top-ups

  • Vouchers cannot be applied to Top-ups in Connect

  • Top-ups are currently one time
